Join Columbia Gadget Works
Sign up online in about ten minutes.
Joining takes four steps and about ten minutes. You will sign two documents on screen and upload a picture of a government-issued photo ID, so have it handy. You can stop part way and come back: after the first step we email you a link that picks up where you left off.
We ask everyone to visit in person at least once before joining, so you can see the shop and meet a few members first. If you have not been yet, come to a Thursday Open Hack Night; it is free and you do not need to sign up. If dues are a barrier, ask us about a scholarship membership; it is a normal conversation.

Online signup is not available right now. You can still set up dues on Givebutter and do the paperwork in person on a Thursday night, or contact us.
Check your email. We already have a signup for that address, so we sent it a link to pick up where it left off. If nothing arrives in a few minutes, contact us.
Paperwork
Three things, in any order. Your progress is saved as you go, and we emailed you a link in case you need to come back later.
1. Liability waiver Signed
2. Membership agreement Signed
3. Photo of your ID Received
A photo of a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license. On a phone you can take the picture now. Only the membership team can see it.
Set up dues
Paperwork is done. The last step is monthly dues, paid through Givebutter. Pick a level and the checkout opens in a new tab.
Use this email address at checkout so we can match the payment to you:
Waiting for Givebutter to confirm your payment. This page updates on its own, usually within a minute. You will also get an email, so it is safe to close this page.
If dues are a barrier, talk to us about a scholarship membership before paying. Your paperwork is already on file.
Welcome to Columbia Gadget Works. Your paperwork and dues are both in. Someone from the membership team will be in touch about your badge and a safety orientation. Until then, come by any Thursday at Open Hack Night.
What happens with your information
Your name, email, and Discord username go into our membership records so we can set up your badge, your locker, and your wiki and Discord accounts. The signed waiver and agreement are kept with your membership record. The photo of your ID is used to confirm you are who you say you are, and only the membership team can see it. Dues are processed by Givebutter; we never see your card number. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Prefer to do it in person?
That works too. Come by on a Thursday between 6 and 8 pm, and a member of the membership team will walk you through the same paperwork on the spot. See membership for what members get and what dues cover.
